Hellooo brown bag lunch
Chelsey Littrell, Charger Staff
As school started, many of us had one question on our minds when
lunch rolled around: why am I suddenly paying three dollars for
a good meal, as opposed to only two dollars as lastyear?
Several factors led to the increase in lunch prices such as oil
price changes which caused the cost of transporting food to go up,
careless students throwing away silverware, and cafeteria workers
finally getting paid for snow days.
While many reasons for the sudden increase have been stated, I
have to wonder why pass this increase down to the students? We as
students must not only pay for our lunch but other expenses such
as gas, car insurance, clothes, CDs, etc. As a working student I
only get minimum wage. Five dollars and fifteen cents an hour is
hardly enough for gas, let alone lunch five days a week. I have
talked to several of my peers, all of whom were extremely perturbed.
Walking through the lunch line I hear continous grumbling about
this incease.
A 25% increase in the cost of a decent lunch is outside the realm
of reasonable. Helloooo brown bag lunch. |
