By now everyone has heard or had the chance to experience the brand-new Sparta
Drive-in. Finally movies are affordable and more enjoyable through this refurbished
1950s relic.
The atmosphere at the drive-in is one of fun and carefree times where a group
of friends or a couple can sit back, relax, and enjoy a pair of current films.
At only $5 for two movies, it is also a cheaper, but more fun, alternative to
the same old Highland 10.
Drive-ins are, of course, a thing of the past that we might have heard about
from our parents or seen in an old-fashioned film.
They first started popping up around the country at the same time World War
II broke out. Only one hundred of these unique theatres existed in the United
States.
Ten years later, Tennessee alone had this same amount., as did most other states.
America couldnt get enough of this domestic invention. The drive-in had become as American as apple pie. However, drive-ins soon became old fashioned and too expensive to operate, forcing most of our nations outdoor theatres to go dark. Here in Tennessee, only fifteen drive-ins remain of a number that once toped one hundred.
But, the drive-in is making a comeback. Of those fifteen, three are reborn-relics
that have come back to life once again delivering the same feel to a new generation.
All across America drive-ins are being built and reopened to the public.
The new (or should I say old?) Sparta Drive-in is a venue for a great time
and good movies.
The theatre is open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights at seven oclock.
Admission is $5 for adults, $2 for kids six-twelve, and free for children under
twelve.
