A fantastic heart-felt film

Staff Writer

John Q is a film I believe everyone who loves emotional movies should rent and watch. My opinion on the film is that it consists of constant suspense and has an extremely well thought- out plot.

The idea is simple- just how far will a father go to save the life of his only child? John Q carries this situation to the limit. Denzel Washington’s portrayal of the title character causes the viewer to see values in a very different light.

At issue is the price of life. A common man without adequate health insurances faces the reality of the cost of a heart transplant for his son. Without it, the child will die, and John must make choices that affect not only himself and his family, but his hostages as well.

Robert Duvall plays the role of the police officer assigned the task of negotiating with John in his desperate situation.

Ray Liotta plays the idiotic Chief of Police whose major concern is public relations.

Anne Heche is an insensitive and deceitful hospital administrator who thinks only of the lack of funds needed for the transplant.

Loaded with tension, great acting, and a believable script and story, John Q features a disturbing look at what choices a father must sometimes make in America today.
