Hit-man Hanks

It’s directed by Sam Mendes. It has Tom Hanks, Paul Newman, and Jude Law. What else do you need to know? It is one of the greatest films released this year.

Set during Prohibition, Road to Perdition is the story of a hit man, Michael Sullivan (Tom Hanks), whose son witnesses him killing some rival gangsters when a smuggling deal goes awry. His boss, played by Paul Newman, fears that Hanks’s son may not be able to keep silent about the crime, so he sends a sadistic killer (Jude Law) to take care of the problem. Tom Hanks must now keep his son and himself alive long enough to exact his bloody revenge on those who have wronged him. This review is not very informative because I do not wish to give anything away.

Road to Perdition is so good because the director keeps reminding the audience that the poor child is only twelve years old and must grow out of his childish innocence into a dangerous world of death and deception.

With Scorcese-like camera moves and Coppola worthy direction, Road to Perdition will be in the lead at the Academy Awards this year. With elements of Last Man Standing mixed with The Godfather, this movie well deserves its nine-out-of-ten rating.
