Unexpected injuries to many starters have left the Cavalier football team faced with obstacles to overcome.

Coach Jerry Joslin said that the strengh and unity that these boys have developed throught their trials is unreal.

The team seems optimistic about the beginning of the season. Senior Brian Sadler said, “I believe that in starting this season, the hay will be in the barn and we will be ready to play.”

Joslin says the senior guys are showing great leadership and he could not be more proud. “They seem to have bonded better than many of the classes before them and I think that has helped them in the long run,” said Joslin.
Some of the seniors Joslin pinpointed as being stand-out leaders were Spencer Huddleston, Jim Ledford, Ben Jones, and Eric Walker, along with the rest of the senior boys who have worked hard to build support, including Michael Dailey, Brian Sadler, Jason Hicks, Jack Lynn, Brandon Cowan, Matt Thompson, Justin Farley, Johnny Kramer, Ben Curry, Klay Lesko, James Lane, Zack Thompson, Brian Jernigan, Drew Edgington, Tyler Fisk, Adam Vandeven, Mark Dean, Josh Ward, and Bill Ferrell.

Joslin said he looks forward to the Region games and anticipates playing the improved Coffee County and Cumberland County teams.

He says certain aspects of the Cavalier team are doing well, and also there are some areas for improvement.

Junior Matt Bates said, “As the season starts, I believe that our keys will be our offensive and defensive line and our ability to run the ball effectively, especially as we make a run for our first-ever Region title.”

The guys all seem very positive about their goals.

Freshman Ryan Sarr said, “With this season hitting us, we are going to be well-prepared to go into battle, with our number one goal being an undefeated season.”

The Jamboree took place on August 23at 8:00. They boys played against York, Baxter, and Monterey High Schools. The freshmen and varsity Cavalier teams played along with games preceding them, played by Avery Trace’s 7th and 8th grade team at 7:00.

The Cavs played White County last Friday night and will play Coffee County tonight at home at 7:30.
Next Friday night’s game is here at 7:30 against Lebanon.

Senior Michael Dailey said, “ The senior boys want the State Championship and we’re not coming home ‘till we get it!”
