One of the most promising fall sports for CHS this year is cross country. This season, Coach Bill Wrasman plans on building on this tradition and making it stronger. He states, “We have a pretty good crop of runners, and I am optimistic about the prospects for this season.”

With daily practices consisting of hill workouts, mile repeats, hour-long distance runs, and timed 3-mile runs, the team is ready for the season.

Returning runners for the men’s team are seniors Justin Birdwell, Daniel Flatt, Jesse Dalton, Aaron Fields, Neal Jackson, Ian Jassitt, Rob Miller, and Jake Standifer; juniors Doug Adams and Justin Proctor; and sophomores Tommy Adams and Colin Gentry. Newcomers include sophomores Stephen Bush and Justin Stanford and freshmen John Allison, Ben Anderson, Wesley Flatt, James Ivey, and Brandon Paramore.

“I’ve seen a lot of change since my freshman year,” says Spud Flatt. “This year’s team, with all the experience, is definitely a high threat to the ranking teams in this state.”

The women’s team this year consists of seniors Mary Bowen, Andie Bowman, Ashley Brady, Rachael Crook, Megan Franklin, Anastasia Schinbeckler, and Marie Lee; juniors Karen McBroom and Laurel Scruggs; and freshmen Kayla Bean, Emily Earles, Sarah Kmet, Priya Mahajan, and Hailey Proctor.

The manager for both teams is junior Senka Hadzimuratovic. Schinbeckler states, “With all the new talent we have on this year’s team, I have no doubts that we’ll go far.” Bowman adds, “That, and fast girls have better times!”

The team held a preseason jamboree on Aug. 22 and also ran at a preseason meet at Tomkins Farm in Gallatin on Sept. 5.

Their first official meet is the Columbia Invitational on Sept. 14, and their first home meet will be on Sept. 24.
