Haunted homecoming

Brandi James, Charger Staff

“Let’s go red, let’s go white! RED, WHITE!” These were the words heard down every hallway at CHS during Haunted Homecoming week, which took place Sept. 20-24. The week was filled with five wonderful and crazy days of festivities. Students also had the opportunity to buy a $15.00 souvenir t-shirt designed by Megan Thomas.

Then came the wardrobe freedom. On Monday the students could be seen in their pajama pants and concert t-shirts. Tuesday was a day of hillbilly madness and twin day. Double Ellie May’s and Jethro’s were all over the place.

On Wednesday, the dress for rhe day was camoflauge/80’s style, and in all favor of true combat style, the students were encouraged to join in on the traditional JROTC obstacle course. The course allowed students to show off their military expertise in front of the school and have a little exercise after those lunch-time burritos. The days winners were Senior Charles Taylor and Sophomore Nikki James.

Karaoke Day was on Thursday, as well as Cowboy and Indians/jersey day. The students could audition during their lunches, and make those “American Idol” fantasies a reality, well at least for a couple of hours. Thursday night was the Homecoming Parade, which started on Freeze St. and continued on down to Broad St. and out near the Depot.

The climax of the week was the big game day, Friday. The students got to compete in the door decoration contest as well as scream and cheer and show off their school pride in the spirit pep rally, where the Cavs got a boost of school spirit for the game against Columbia.

During half time, the homecoming court took their places on the fifty yard line to anxiously await the crowning of the queen. Members of the court included freshman attendants Dustin Langford, Brooke Mussard, Austin Norton and Abbie Irwin. Sophomore attendants were David Lane, Mary Beth Marcum, Michael Lane and Chelsea Gaw.

Juniors were Morgan Thomas. Grant Cooper, Mary Dodson and Rob Winningham. Finally, the seniors included Homecoming Queen Morgan Cupp escorted by Evan Dyer, Evelyn Gonzalez and Kyle Martin, and Sara Hollman and Rich Froning.
