Lady Marpelet's Tea Room: have a spot of tea
Angie Stewart , Charger Staff
Lady Marpelet’s Tea Room is a new restaurant in town that
just opened over the summer. The owners are Cheryl Longhurst and
Diana Bloomer. Most people probably do not know exactly what a tea
room is.
A southern style tea room features various finger foods, like pastries
and scones, as well as tea from around the world. Tea rooms are
usually located in small houses to give the tranuility of a small,
comfortable home. They often provide a great atmosphere for birthdays,
bridal parties, baby showers and other get-togethers.
Special events are welcomed, such as church groups, club meetings,
bridesmaid teas, bridal showers, baby showers and birthday celebrations.
For groups of eight or more, the tip is already included with the
bill.
The name, Lady Marpelet’s, was thought of by one of the owners,
Diana Bloomer. The name is a combonation of all of the mothers,
mother-in-laws, and grandmothers of the family.
Lady Marpelet’s Tea Room is a great place to relax, unwind,
and talk to friends. When visting the tea room, customers get a
chance to play dress up. Customers are asked to pick out a hat,
boa, or other accessories when they walk in if they want to.
As soon as visitors are seated, a server will ask for each persons
tea request, though they also offer Coke, Diet Coke and Sprite.
They have different combinations of tea-danties and pastries featured
on the menu. Garden fresh potato soup, apple and cranberry salad,
summer cucumber rounds sandwich, ham and swiss on croissant, and
white chocolate and butterscotch bars are some of the food featured
on the menu.
Also featured on the menu are cream tea, Butler’s Choice,
Empress’ Delight and Lady Marpelet’s Extravaganza. These
are all the different combinations of you can choose from. Dessert
and tea trays are available by request.
Tea and etiquette classes are available for ages six and older.
A store is located in the tea room as well, where boas, purses,
jewelry, tiarras, tea cups and other cute accessories are available.
Bagged tea can also be purchased in the store.
The tea room is open on Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. until
