When fondness meets obsession

Laura Denton, Charger staff

One of the hottest new movies at the theatre is Swimfan starring Jesse Bradford as Ben Cronin and Erika Christensan as Madison Bell. The plot of this movie is about Ben cheating on his girlfriend Amy with the new girl in town, Madison Bell.

From the moment she sees him, she sets her sights on having him. One day she finally gets him alone and proceeds to seduce him. Ben is, after all, only a guy, and he gives in to temptation. When he realizes what he’s done is wrong, he tries to cut it off. When Madison isn’t willing to let go, things get violent.

This movie is often compared to Fatal Attraction, starring Micheal Douglas as Dan and Glenn Close as Alex Forrester. The plot is basically the same; taken man involved with a freaky psycho-killer. Both were short-lived passions where the guy involved had no emotional attachment to the woman with whom he was having an affair. In reality, Ben was very happy with his girlfriend as was Dan with his wife.

There are a few main differences between these two films, however. For example, Dan is an older married man with a five year old daughter. His affair was slightly longer than that of Ben and Madison’s. On the other hand, the episode between Ben and Madison was a onetime occurrence, and there were no complications such as the one in Fatal

Attraction when Alex gets pregnant with Dan’s child, whom Dan refuses to recognize. Also, Madison succeeded in killing someone in her unstable obsessive state, whereas Alex managed only to kill a bunny. So, if you enjoy blood and psychotic stalkers I highly recommend both movies.
