Ill never forget...

I remember the morning the World Trade Center
fell. On my way to class someone asked, Have you heard? A
plane just crashed into the World Trade Center! Unsure of
his meaning, I hurried down the hall to see for myself. Everyone
was glued to the TV, dumbfounded by what they saw. I joined them
to find that the impossible was, in fact, true. For the remainder
of the day, no one spoke at all. No one knew what to say.
In the ensuing days and weeks, news coverage was constant. Each
new day brought hope that someone would make it out of the wreckage
alive. Some said, Maybe there is an air pocket; maybe more
people are still alive down there. As time wore on, optimism
turned to frustration. Everyone prepared for the rebuilding process,
the most difficult stage of all. A year later, the pain of memory
lingers.
September 11 was a direct attack on innocent
civilians. This fact made it different than any tragedy before it.
The attack changed our lives by penetrating the very soul of our
nation.
In the face of it all, the will to survive
prevailed. The people of this country did what any compassionate
beings would have done. They made sacrifices. The bravery and selflessness
exhibited by those who fought the tears and wreckage was worthy
of all the praise we at home had to give.
I will never forget September 11. The pain
of its memory may subside, but never will it fade from its place
in my heart.
