Flying lizards attract attention

Kathleen Robles, Charger Staff

Have you ever been to the stars? Have you traveled through wormholes in egg-shaped ships? Have you ridden aback a dragon fighting against a falling death from the sky? Have you ever shared your thoughts and dreams with a true blue friend that will be with you ‘til the end? Have you ever sent things flying through space with just the power of your mind?

No? Well, neither have I, but dreaming about it brings it one step closer. At least that how Anne McCaffery seems to view life. As a lifelong bookworm, or human in this case, I have recently become hooked on the Dragon Riders of Pern.

A lone white line pierces the sky. A shout arises, “The Threads are here! Call the dragon riders!” Instantly the sky is filled with dragons of many colors. Blue, green, brown, bronze, and gold dragons dance in the morning sun. Their riders toss bits of black stone into their steeds mouth, firestone. As the chemical work their magic flame erupts from the bellies of the beasts. The Dragonriders are suddenly seized with silver strands. That, with a touch, will eat away any organic life on Pern.

As the fight plaques the power of the Benden Weyr Rider’s a lone boy finds himself meeting his own Thread fall.

In the course of requesting the stolen queen egg of Benden from the banished Southerners. Slipping through time with his one-of-a-kind white dragon Ruth, Lord Jaxom is suddenly injured by thread fall.

What will happen to the leader of a Hold? Will his manor-type people live on with out him? Will Jaxom’s Guardian Lytol keep things in order if he dies?

More secrets entwine to make the third Dragon Rider’s of Pern book, The White Dragon.

Did you think I would give you all the twists and turns that make The White Dragon something special? Nope! Not me! You have to go and read The White Dragon yourself. It’s a worthy read!
