The CHS men’s and women’s golf teams are into post-season play and doing quite well. Hal Denton, coach of the men’s team, said, “We have had a season where we have played some pretty stiff competition in tournaments. We have improved over time and should be reaching our peak here at post-season tournament time.”

His team leaders this year have been seniors Barrett Steakley, Josh Reese, Wes Fox, and Josh Dyer, along with sophomore Jared Dunn and freshman Josh Cook, all of whom are district and region team members.

Coach Denton comments, “We have some outstanding individual players this year. I am proud of what they have accomplished for themselves and for this team.” The team hopes to qualify for the state tournament in October.

CHS’s women of the sport also have high hopes for the tournament season. Lady Cav golfers include juniors Nikki Dishman, Sarah Bilbrey, Holly Lane, and Hillary Pate, as well as sophomore Julie Longhurst and freshmen Candace Russell and Lauren Jones.

“The juniors have really stepped up this year,” said team member Hillary Pate.
Coach Bray’s team will enter district and region tournament play later on this month. Good luck to both squads as they wrap up their seasons!
