CHS adopters give much to school and students
Alison Palmer, Charger Staff
CHS has the privilege of having five wonderful companies for adopters
who support and contribute to many different aspects of this school.
These five companies are Clear Channel Communications, Lucky B
Manufacturing, McDonalds of Cookeville, One Hour Martinizing, and
First National Bank. They make our school year possible with numerous
donations and contributions, and have been supporting us for the
past three years.
Clear Channel Communication is the company responsible for the
many radio stations we listen to and for the Channel 7 announcements.
The people of Clear Channel voted to become adopters of CHS because
all of their children would someday attend this school.
It is a great establishment, and we wanted to be a part of
it, says Laura Wolfe, our friendly adopter contact.
Clear Channel helps with countless activities including tailgate
parties for home football games and supplying DJs for the dances.
WHUB AM has been the voice of the Cavaliers for thirty-five years,
commenting basketball and football games. They also provide guest
speakers for marketing classes and feed the staff of CHS once a
year.
Lucky B Manufacturing is a wholesale parts distributer,
and they adopted CHS because they saw a need to give information
to vocational students about the several career opportunities available
to them in the future.
They are extremely happy that they adopted CHS and are pleased
with the new Nashville Tech program on Neil Street.
Lucky B takes vocational classes on tours to local
manufacturing facilities to broaden the students horizons
of specific skills and opportunities.
One Hour Martinizing is another adopter of CHS. When asked why
they adopted us, Britt Akers, our adopter contact and a former CHS
student, explained that CHS has incredible teachers and students.
I never stopped being a Cavalier...and it is my turn to give
back.
They enjoy being a part of this young generation and are involved
in orientations and open houses. Mock interviewing, the Business
Fair, and the Health Fair are also activities they participate in
and support.
One Hour Martinizing is helpful to the other students in other
ways as well. They offer tuxedo rentals and can take care of the
shirts that students use for jobs in restaurants and other places.
Another adopter is First National Bank. They joined the CHS team
because they wanted to be involved in the community and there is
no better way to do that than at the high school. First National
wants us to have better education because they believe that we are
the future of this community.
Every year, First National Bank is involved in the Career Day activities
and in the spring, they participate in the Health Fair and provide
lunch to all of the staff during in-service.
For all who want another way to show their school pride, First National
Bank provides a Cavalier debit card, a product developed specifically
for the students of CHS The card has the logo of CHS on it and is
a great way to show your school spirit.
Our last, but certainly not least, adopter is McDonalds of Cookeville.
When David Little approached them with the offer of adopting of
CHS, they accepted because, We felt that the high school could
benefit from us, and we like the idea of being part of it,
says Sandra Funderburk.
McDonalds enjoys being an adopter because it allows their company
to be a part of such an important institution within the community.
They regularly feed the teachers breakfast, and are also participants
of Career Day and the Health Fair.
McDonalds would like CHS students to know that McDonalds is a great
place to get a start in the job force. Its more than flipping
hamburgers and working the cashier. There are several other career
opportunities found in management and technical fields, and is also
a great way to earn some money while going to school. And remember,
McDonalds of Cookeville loves to see CHS students smile!
Without the help and support of these adopters, our school would
not be what it is. Next time you stop by one of these five companies,
dont forget to say thanks.
