The CHS volleyball team has much to live up to, coming back after a highly successful season including a berth to the state tournament.
According to junior middle-hitter Ashley Taylor, the 2001 team may be just as good. "Our seniors are great leaders on this team. They are taking control and stepping up, and that's been good for all of us," says Taylor.
The seniors being mentioned are Wynne Presley, Andrea Redus, Rebecca Pierce and Stacey Moss. These four have helped propel the Cavs to a 13-4 record, but as usual with this team, no one would take credit; it was all for the team. "We are like a family." said Taylor. "We win together and lose together, confront our problems and just try to have fun."
Volleyball coach Randy Mansell had nothing but good thing to say about the group of seniors on the team: "All of our girls have done a great job this year, especially our seniors. Each of the girls has unique qualities that help us. Wynne's intensity is her strong suit. She is always fired up and ready to play the big teams.
Andrea is a versatile player with the willingness to play outside hitter and middle blocker, and is our team captain.
Rebecca is our defensive specialist. She comes in on serve receive and helps us out. She has a great attitude, does her best, and is focused more on the team than herself.
Stacey is our most aggresive player on the net. She's got a big swing and is a hard hitter."
Obviously this year's team has all it takes to make it as far as they can. Coming up for the Cavs on October 10th and 11th are district tournaments, which are held in Cookeville, so Coach Mansell and the rest of the team hope for great crowd support!
Our senior volleyballers, Moss, Pierce, Presley, and Redus, have worked hard to make their final year at CHS the reatests! Let's show them our support and appreciation!"
