The Lady Cavs volleyball team began their second half of the season on Oct. 1 and 2. The girls traveled to Murfreesboro where they competed in the traditional Blackman Lady Blaze Tournament. The girls, with their record standing at 17-18, enjoyed wins over Smyrna, Lavergne and Lebanon, but lost to Ooltewah, DCA, University school of Nashville and Riverdale. The tournament left Taylor Denney with seven kills, Hillary Valdez with eighteen assists and Lauren Garrett with eleven digs.

Senior Night was Oct. 5, during which the lone senior, Joanna Slagle, helped her team to a 3-1 win over Cumberland County with twenty three digs. Denney had nine kills, while Laura Dale added seven, along with four blocks.

The Lady Cav Playday was Oct 8-9, where teams incuding Faragut, Page, Oakland, White County, Cumberland County and Jackson County had a relaxing weekend of back-to-back volleyball games. The girls started off the weekend with a 3-1 win over Oakland on Friday. Saturday brought Warren County, but sent then packing quick when the girls won 3-0. The Farragut match left the girls with a disappointing loss of 13-25, 18-25 and 17-25.

The District 7-AAA Tournament took place on Oct. 12, where the Lady Cavs played the Siegel Stars. The Stars started off with a 16-3 lead over the Cavs, and ended the game with a 25-16. The girls led 23-20 in the second game, but ended up losing 26-24 and 25-17 in the third game.

The Lady Cavs ended the season as number three from the East Tennessee and finished up the season with a 20-20 record. Slagle ended up having fifteen digs and four kills in her final high school match. James added ten solo blocks and five block assists, while Denney paced the Lady Cavs with eight kills.

Congratulations to the girls on their accomplishments during the season, and we look forward to next year’s events too.
