Cavaliers running strong

Kristen Herd, Charger Staff

The football season has been going great for the boys. They have shown no sign of backing down. Now they have won nine games out of ten, which proves our team has been working hard. CHS won the homecoming game on Sep. 24 against the Columbia Lions, 10-7. Russell Tribble and Shane Langford both had 7 tackles each.

On Oct. 1, CHS played the Lincoln Falcons. Cookeville had their best score in the first half. Morgan Toline made ten tackles this game, and the Cavs beat the Falcons, 16-14.

Cookeville played the Antioch Bears on Oct. 8. Tyler Turner made three assists while playing against the Bears. The final score came out 24-21 with Cookeville winning.

The Cumberland County Jets were the Cavs next opponents on Oct. 15. Gus Paxton made the first fourteen points in the first half. The Cavs won this game yet again with a final score of 21-0. Senior Shane Langford stated, “Our team stepped up at crunch time. Some underclassmen have also stepped up and some on are defense.”

On Oct. 22, the Cavs played against the McGavock Raiders. John Ledford, Gus Paxton, Jared Phillips, and Derek Bush made five touchdowns. The final score was 36-0, another victory for the Cavs.

The last game of the season before playoffs was held on Oct. 29. The Cavs played the Franklin County Rebels. The 35-6 win put the Cavs in the playoffs.

“The players worked really hard to finish the regular season 9-1. We have improved every week and we are looking forward to making a run in the State Playoffs,” said Coach Noah Repasky.

On Nov. 5, the first game of the play offs took place. Our Cavs played Wilson Central at home. After being down 14-7 in the second quarter, the team came back for a win of 36-20.

Defeating the Wildcats puts them in the spot to play the Lebanon Blue Devils on Nov. 12. The Blue Devils were the only team that was not defeated, but the Cavs have the determination to win their second meeting of the season. Good luck team!
