Senior year comes with great responsibility

Brandi James, Charger Staff

Yeah, senior year is finally here!!! We can finally do whatever we want, do it whenever we want and not have to worry about anyone or anything, right?

Wrong, and that’s wrong with a capital W. Not only do we have to worry about not being persuaded to skip to much and trying to stay awake in class, we also have to worry about what kind of job we will have and what college we plan on going to or even if we want to go to college, and so on and so on. The list seems to get longer every time I start to enjoy my last year of high school. All these decisions are to be made whether your ready or not; that is hat is expected. You might as well tell us that before we graduate we have to invent an anti-aging-younger-looking-wow-I-dont-look-a-day-over-twenty three wrinkle cream.

Most of us have lived very sheltered and worry free lives. Until now. SATs, ACTs, academic acholarships, sports scholarships, financial aid and making sure you have all the right credits to graduate, are just the main priorities. We also have to worry about Senior paper, college scouts, teacher recomendations and plenty more.

The world seems to just throw all these obstacles at you, right before graduation. For those lucky enough to have parental support throughout their college years, you don’t have to worry about rent, bills and car payments. For the other 98%, we are forced to become an adult ithin a year and take on responsibilities that have been taken care of by our parents and teachers since we were in kindergarten.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the idea of taking on the world on late payment at a time, but there is only so much one little ol’ senior can do

For example, I have put off and procrastinated taking the SATs and ACTs. I thought to myself, “Brandi, it’s okay go ahead and wait, you have a whole year to take those measly little tests, and besides, it’s not like it will take that much time out of your busy schedule.” Boy, was I wrong.

Bam! It’s like suddenly I have hit a brick wall head on and have been handed a gift basket with all the exams and tests, and required papers I have to have to graduate and begin a new life. A life without Mommy and Daddy at my side 24/7, helping me and, sometimes, saving me from all the bad things in life.

Okay so maybe this whole article has sounded like a poor, pitiful me report, but it’s not. I just wanted to tell all the underclassmen to not procrastinate and to make sure everything is in order your sophomore and junior years. Your senior year should be one of final makeups with friends, pep rallies, football games and having a good time, not worrying about whether or not your going to have a future, because you didn’t get your test scores and applications in on time. So good luck and enjoy your high school years, they just seem to fly right by your eyes.
