Speech Team: enough said

Grant Beaty, Charger Staff

Speech Team has several new members this year. "Every year is a little different..." said Dr. Kathy Ligon, the Speech Team instructor. "I have a feeling that it's going to be a good year."

The Speech Team does more than just give speeches; they also do acting and interpretations. "Students have to find events in which they wish to speak," said Ligon. Students are encouraged to be passionate about their topic.

Speech Team recently hosted a tournament in which eighteen schools participated. In one of the many tournaments, Cookeville High School placed fourth out of ten schools. The top five members of the CHS Speech Team are seniors Jessie Holloway, Carly Frounfelker, Elizabeth Garrett, Bryan Isbell and Madi Daily.

On Nov. 5 and 6 the CHS Speech Team competed in their first overnight tournament in Morristown. Ruben Gamboa and Ward Jordan placed fifth in duo improv, Elizabeth Garrett placed second in poetry, Bryan Isbell placed third in extemporaneous speaking, and Carly Frounfelker placed fifth in storytelling and first in original oratory. From Nov. 30 through Dec. 2, Speech Team is performing The Father of the Bride as a theater production.
