Travel in style with CHS

Visiting other places, seeing other cultures, and experiencing other lifestyles can be a key factor in maturing and becoming a well-rounded individual. Cookeville High School faculty members are providing a number of oppurtunities this year for students who want to travel outside of the state or even the country. If you have ever thought about touring another place, first consider: Where you want to go? What do you want to see? How much can you afford to spend?

For all of you who have dreamed of brushing up on your European history and having a little fun this summer, we have the perfect trip for you. Mrs. Nadine Jones will be traveling to Europe in the first week of summer for fifteen days. For $3500 you can witness “The Making of Modern Europe” and tour Normandy, the World War I trenches, and Paris. They will also travel to Germany to see the sights of Berlin, Potsdam and Stuggert.

For more of a Spanish feel with a French twist, travel with Mr. Brian Meish for an exciting trip to Madrid, Barcelona, Provence, Paris and more! In Madrid you can experience the wonders of the Puerto del Sol, the Royal Palace, and visit the Prado to see works by El Greco and Goya. Leave it to your ACIS tour guide to help you find the Olympic Stadium and Gothic Quarter of the beautiful Barcelona. Witness the medieval city of Carcassone and learn how perfume is made in the ancient city of Grasse. Finally, take in the sights of the Paris lights as you enjoy an up-close look at the famous Arc de Triomphe, study the gargoyles of Notre Dame, and enjoy the art and histoy of the Louvre. For $2600, you can be on your way during Spring Break to enjoy the sights and sounds of Europe.

If your wallet is tight, but you still dream of getting away, get in touch with Mrs. Lisa Burgess, because for $2100 you can enjoy the charisma of London, Paris and Rome for ten days. CHS will be teaming up with other students from Putnam County and Peggy Fragopoulos, a Monterey teacher, to add another unique element to this already exciting tour. The views of Big Ben, Kensington Place, St. Paul’s Catherdral and the House of Parliament will all be featured on your exciting tour of London. See the Leaning Tower of Pisa and quite a few of Michelangelo’s masterpieces including “David” at the Gallaria Dell’ Accademia in Florence and the famous Sistine Chapel in Rome. This trip also includes free time in Paris and Florence.

For a more in-depth look at European culture travel with Mrs. Jan Presley to London, Paris and Amsterdam for a nine day stay during Spring Break. For $2400 you can see St. Paul’s Cathedral, Notre Dame, the Louvre, and the Palace of Versailles. You also get to travel on the Eurostar under the English Channel to Paris. This summer expericence the “Splendors of the Mediterranean” with Mr. Mitch White as you travel through Italy , Greece and enjoy a relaxing island cruise. For $2400 you can travel through Venice, Florence, Rome, Athens, the isles of Greece and much more! This trip, which lasts eighteen days, has a unique flare thanks to its relaxing daily tours and mellow sightseeing that includes the ancient Roman hippodrome, Vatican City, and the Parthenon to name a few.

Ever wanted a look at the “island state”? For a tan and lots of fun in the sun, you can take a ten day trip to Hawaii with Mr. John Kimbrough during Spring Break. Visit Honolulu, Maui and the 13,000 foot-high volcano Mauna Loa, for only $2400. Expericence an authentic Hawaiian Luau on your visit. For a sun-filled Spring Break vacation enjoy, this Hawaiian vacation.
All of you out there who don’t want to travel overseas can get a close-up look at Washington D.C. and how our government works this Spring Break with Mrs. Carter and Mrs. Cho. Get a look at the nation’s capital and its people and places. Get your opinions out there and exchange viewpionts with government experts and newsmakers. See famous memorials including the Lincoln Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial, and the Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial. Enjoy American culture with this tour of our nation’s capital!
