High expectations and verticals for the basketball teams

Holley Roberts, Charger Staff

Get ready for cold weather and indoor entertainment; basketball season is here!

The Cookeville Cavaliers are coming off a 19-9 season and hope to improve upon that record.

“We only have one player with varsity experience, and we really need our senior class to take a big step up,” said Coach Bray.

Senior players are Mario Burnett, Bobby Allmon, Blake Weaver, Josh Curtis and Brian Otuonye.

Coach Bray has high hopes for the team and believes, “We will continue to get better as the season goes on.”

Coach Bray will be assisted this year by Gavin Moore a CHS alumnus and former Cavalier basketbll player.

Moore said, “It’s great to back on the CHS courts.”

The Lady Cavaliers are also looking forward to a successful season.

“We lost some key players from last season,” Coach Odom said, “but we had a good summer with plenty of younger players stepping up to fill those gaps.”

The team will look to its four seniors, Ashley Taylor, Rachel Nipper, Erica McDonald and Holley Roberts for strong leadership.

Coach Odom also said that some positions will not have much experience, but she feels this will not be a problem as the season progresses.

Cookeville High basketball will host Cumberland County for its season opener on November 26 at 6:30 p.m.

Come out and support the Cavaliers!
