Mi casa es su casa

Leigh Ivey, Editor-in-Chief

It was a reunion of the restaurants reviewers at Casa Fiesta this month. Former reviewers Meg Ivey, Nicole Pullen, and Molly Risley, along with Senka Hadzimuratovic taking Yamini Rao’s place as our foreign member, accompanied me to the Mexican restaurant Casa Fiesta, located in the Wal-Mart shopping center.

I arrived at the restaurant with the idea that all Mexican restaurants are essentially the same. I was soon to discover that this particular place stands above the rest...

Just walking into the main room, we were greeted with twinkling lights, bright wall designs, and smiling, friendly waiters. We were shown quickly to a table in the middle of the room, surrounded with booths and festive, decorative lamps hanging above each table. Our drink orders were taken immediately, and soon we were given the traditional chips and salsa.

After Nicole finally arrived, we ordered our meals (although we ate so many chips it would have been sufficient to leave without ordering). Meg and Molly both ordered chicken quesadillas, despite the rule that no two reviewers are allowed to order the same meal.

Since Meg and Molly are not around much, I let it slide.

Nicole got a burrito supreme, covered with lettuce, tomatoes, and an odd looking sauce, which she said tasted fine. Senka got a chicken enchalada, and without many other options, I got a taco, beans, and rice. Someone has to get the boring meal anyway, to report on ordinary food, and you just can’t go wrong with a taco...

The food was delivered promptly, eaten promptly, and promptly cleared away. The service was excellent, earning four stars (I think we’ve gotten too gracious with our stars, but it was really good). The best part of Casa Fiesta, however, was the Spanish written on the walls above the kitchen, dining room, and restrooms. The entire dining experience at Casa Fiesta was muy bueno!
