Wrestlers end winning season with trip to state tournament

Doug Hensley, Charger Staff

Our wrestling team had a great season. The teams final record was 20-9.

Coach Scott Cook said that the season went as expected with CHS sending wrestlers to state for the second year in a row.

The following made it to state: freshman, Tyler Reeder; sophomore, Charles Taylor; juniors, BJ Sullivan, Daniel Boyce, Justin Proctor, and Matt Bates; and seniors, Joe Hill, Kevin McCaleb, Nick Martinez, and David Hobbs.

This was the second trip to state competition for Sullivan, Boyce, Proctor, Taylor, McCaleb, Martinez, Hobbs, and Bates. Boyce and Sullivan medaled at the tournaments placing second and fifth respectively.

In the regions Sullivan and Martinez placed first; Boyce, Bates, and Hobbs placed second; Proctor and Hill placed third; and Taylor, Reeder, McCaleb placed fourth.

One of the high points of the season for team members was a chance to “strut their stuff” in front of the student body at an assembly featuring a match with Warren County. Although they have many dedicated fans they don’t often get the chance to enter the gym as hundreds of their peers cheer them on. They are hoping to build their following as they continue their success next fall and make wrestling a major spectator sport at CHS in the future.

This magical season is now over, and the wrestlers deserve a pat on the back for their hard work throughout the season.
