Soccer boyz
Daniel Spud Flatt, Charger Staff
There comes a time of year when headers and footers do not apply
to your word processor. That time of year is in the fresh new days
of spring. Headers can be seen propelling balls to the sky, and
footers --well-- they seem to be set on a crash course with white
leather balls with black spots. Soccer season has arrived at CHS.
The mens soccer team is coming back from their best season
in Cookeville High School history.
Last season the men placed third at the 2002 TSSAA State Spring
Fling.
Much of their success from last season came from the large number
of seniors on last years team.
Senior veteran David Knieling is hoping for another miraculous
season.
David said, The team is working really well together this
year.
Junior Kenny Barrett said, I have high expectations for the
team, and if we work well together this year, we should have a really
good season.
Bobby Norwood adds, Its a long road to state, but we
have the potential as long as we focus and stick together as a team.
Coaches Neal Ellis and Lauren Neal have been working their stereotypically
long haired men hard during the off season. Their main focus has
been the fundamentals of the game.
Head Coach Neal Ellis says, If and when the weather clears
up we look forward to being a tough competitor in the district.
Coach Elliss first goal is to win the district this year.
A district title would be a three-peat for the Cookeville High School
Cavaliers soccer team. He then wants to get the team back to the
state competition.
Look for our men to do well this year. Come out to our one of a
kind soccer field here at CHS and support our team.
