Baseball season opener on March 10

Just as many of us long for sunshine and warm weather, others long also for the crack of the bat and the smell of the leather glove -- spring practice and then baseball season.

Tryouts for the CHS baseball team just ended and morning and afternoon practice sessions are under way. The season opens up on March 10 at White House.

The baseball team will look to seniors Barrett Steakley, Robby Adams, Drew Cook, Lee Williams, Jeff Wair, Jay Sandlin, Drew Edgington, Adam Militana, Brian Militana, and Josh Curtis for leadership this season.

Backing them up will be juniors Brady Adams, Josh Weigand, Mike Alcorn, Leighton Smith, Chad Maddox, and Adam Littrell as well as sophomores Morgan Toline, Tyler Turner, Rich Froning, Wade Bilbrey, Evan Dyer, Wes Griggs, Chris Norton, Craig Collins, Derek Bush, and Cody Huddleston. The freshman roster isn’t final.

Coaching the team this year are new head Coach Scott Hunt. He will b e assisted by Coach Jed Douglas and former CHS baseball standout Coach Ben Stites.

Coach Douglas’ expectations for the team are, “To see the team advance to the TSSAA state tournament in Memphis.”

He also thinks it is vital for the senior players to carry the team.

Coach Stites said, “I would like for the baseball team to play in the district and place first.”

The team has played in 3 scrimmages so far and will travel to Florida during Spring Break.
