Red Cross blood drive once again a success
Leigh Ivey, Editor-in-Chief
In a time of uncertainty, many teenagers have wondered what they
can do to help others. Many CHS students discovered a way to help
on Feb. 19, when CHSs Interact Club hosted its semi-annual
blood drive.
The Red Cross is pleading for more donors because of questions
over the state's blood supply. The Red Cross quarantined 70% of
its blood supply after finding mysterious white particles in ten
bags.
While awaiting test results, the red cross needs plenty of blood
donors to prevent a critical shortage. Some hospitals are even canceling
surgeries because of the blood shortage.
Students from Cookeville High took the challenge and turned out
in record numbers to donate blood.
108 students originally signed up, and over one hundred were able
to donate to the Red Cross, showing that teenagers really can make
a difference.
Interact member Dane Cooper said, "It really shows how much
everyone cares to have this many students volunteer to donate blood.
Every person who volunteered is an example that we can make a difference.
