Flag football for one and all coming to CHS

Wes Garner, Charger Staff

Unfortunately, football season is long gone... not! Cookeville High’s students can get a second time around with the sport that brought so much enjoyment to the first semester of this year.

Coach Joslin is preparing a flag football league for the CHS students. Coach J. just cannot get enough of the sport. Coach Joslin wants to provide this opportunity to all of those who supported the Cookeville High School football team this past year. He wants to let the students know that he is very thankful to all of the students who supported the football team by being band members, cheerleaders, and even just spectators willing to brave the cold weather just to cheer on our team. Although, this team will be based of current CHS students, the league will consist of coaches and even former football players.

The league is not just for football oriented people either, but for everyone.

For example, there is one team from Stroud’s Barbecue compiled of past and present students, and yet another from our school named...”The Band Geeks.” Many people have asked about all-girl teams. He would like for people to think of it as an intramural league with a very diverse group of participants.Coach Joslin said the only rules that apply are,”...my rules.” Do not worry, though, standard football rules will still be followed. By “my rules,” Coach Joslin is just emphasizing how “clean” he wants this league to be. His hope is that the league will be competitive, but not violent, with no profanity, and no bad sportsmanship. Signs of this behavior from any participant will result in his prohibition from the league. The season will last 4 to 5 weeks and meet on Monday and Thursday nights.

There will be seven players on the field, but teams are allowed to have as many players as they need (most teams are around ten). Games will be played two at a time on 40 by 34 yard fields.

They will also have 25 minute long halves and each team gets two time-outs per game. The season will start with exhibition games and end with a tournament where match-ups will be drawn at random.Because of the unpredictable weather at the beginning of the year, everything is scheduled to start during the week after spring break. 13 teams are lined up to play, but it is not to late to get one together.

If you want more information or would like to sign up a team, you can get in touch with Coach Joslin at 520-2256, which is the field house number.
So, get ready for the excitement of football season all over again!
