Don’t forget to see A Walk to Remember

Erica Flatt, Charger Staff

I realize that by the time this issue comes out several of you (especially the girls) will have already seen A Walk to Remember. But for the girls who haven’t seen it yet, you need to do so, and for the guys, take the girls. They need a shoulder to cry on.

When I first heard that Mandy Moore was starring in a movie, I thought to myself, “She can’t act, can she?” I was proved wrong. She plays the role of the innocent, kind Jamie Sullivan perfectly. Landon Carter, the guy who makes a complete turnaround and steals her heart is played by TV’s Once and Again star Shane West.

Based on the Nicholas Sparks’ novel, A Walk to Remember, the movie, doesn’t exactly follow the book. Although some scenes match the book, several do not. All during the movie, Emilee Chaffin and I caught ourselves saying to each other, “That’s not in the book.”

The movie is, however, much better than I expected. Just as Carter does in the book, he does in the movie. He breaks his promise to Jamie; he falls in love with her. The ending of the movie is just as sad as the book. It is definitely a tear-jerker. Girls, bring the Kleenex.

And guys, go for the girls and take notes from Carter. He definitely has many lessons to teach. One of Jamie’s wishes that he fulfills was to be in two places at once. He drives her to the state line and with one foot in North Carolina and the other in Virginia he tells her that she’s in two places at once.

Who knows, you may actually like it. A grown man who came with his wife sat beside me and got up after the lights came on and the credits started rolling to Moore’s new single “Cry” and he said, “That was really good. No, I’m serious I really liked it!” If these reasons still aren’t good enough to get you guys to go see it, Mandy Moore’s in it.

So even though you’ve probably already seen it, see it again and catch it on video. It’s worth it...even a second-time around.
