Bellacino’s: king of oven baked sandwiches

Leigh Ivey, Charger Staff

The never-ending search for great restaurants is still, well, never-ending. This time we arrived at Bellacino’s, a pizza/grinder shop. Unfortunately, our memories weren’t good enough to realize that on the last restaurant outing, we visited Quiznos, a restaurant that is also known for their sandwiches...but what can you do?

Located at the Jackson Shopping Plaza, Bellacino’s is next door to a karate center with large, uncovered windows. My question is, why would you want to take karate where everyone walking by can watch you?

Anyway, Nicole Pullen, Molly Risley, Natalie Shutov, and I arrived at the restaurant and ordered. Avoiding my usual turkey and cheese, I asked for the pizza grinder, a sandwich filled with pepperoni, cheese, and pizza sauce, and I would highly recommend it. Molly got the Manager’s Special: a barbeque sandwich, chips, and a drink. Her synopsis of the deal was, “The manager must be so cool!” The manager cooks the barbeque so that it looks a little, well, different, but Molly said it was delicious, so I guess appearances really can be deceiving.
Natalie ordered the chicken grinder, and Nicole, unfortunately, did not branch out enough to order anything but the traditional turkey grinder. But when you find a good thing, it’s hard to settle for less.

The best thing about Bellacino’s is the tall tables in the back. I don’t know why it is, but tall tables are just so much cooler than regular tables. The waiters also bring your food out to you even though it’s basically a fast-food restaurant, so that’s a big plus too.

So which place is better--Quiznos or Bellacino’s? Everyone agrees, Bellacino’s wins. With the top score of four stars, it rules the world of oven-baked sandwiches.
