Every year at Cookeville High School, the graduating class attends a Baccalaureate service prior to graduation.
The Baccalaureate originated as a religious service but it has since developed into a motivational service to send the graduating seniors out into the world.
A guest speaker, such as a politician, a minister, a well-known person in local or national levels, or an alumni, delivers the speech to the graduates. In past years, prominent alumni have delivered the speeches.
This year's service will be different from those in the past because all three Putnam County high schools will combine for a single Baccalaureate service," said Dr. Nash, who is a part of the committee that is heading up the Baccalaureate this year. Monterey, Upperman, and Cookeville High Schools will all attend the same service at Tennessee Tech on Monday, June 3, at 7:00 p.m.
The committee
working on the Baccalaureate program has met once this year and plans to meet
again in March.
They have not yet received a confirmation on who this year's speaker will be, but they plan on getting someone who is well known in the state or national level because of the magnitude of this year's program.
This year's Baccalaureate should be a special service with all of Putnam County's graduating seniors in attendance.
