Ms. Sharon Anderson, Cookeville High School's teacher of the Year, has recently been named the County teacher of the Year for grades nine to twelve.
Ms. Anderson has been teaching for eighteen years in several different schools and has been at CHS for six years. She teaches in the Social Studies department where U.S. History is her favorite class although "newspaper has become a close second."
After becoming County Teacher of the Year, the next step p is the Upper cumberland District Teacher of the Year, where a professional biography and a two-page report on the participant's philosophy of teaching is required.
There will be three winners at the district level and those winners will move on to the state level where one teacher will be named Tennesse Teacher of the Year.
The process of narrowing down the most influential teachers in the state is slowly progressing, and Ms. Anderson is one of the dedicated few in contention for this honor.
Anderson said, "No teacher teaches for awards. We teach because it is what we are committed to doing. The biggest reward is seeing our students do well."
