David Epley, Charger Staff
There have been three major events in my life. I have decided to rank them
in order of importance. Let me describe them...
On October 3, 1983, I was born to Mark and Cindy Epley in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
This obviously was an important event, but considering that I dont even
remember it, I award it the bronze medal.
The next milestone in my life occurred only a few months ago. This event is
comprised of a whole weekend of kickin activities. It was the state
soccer tournament, and after some hard losses earlier in the season, the Cookeville
United Team was in need of a good win.
After a hard loss to Chattanooga, the Cookeville United soccer team pulled
it together and and won three straight games to become Division II State Champions.
To top it off, we were treated to an all-you-could-eat buffet at Hooters. This
definitely receives a silver medal.
Being born and winning state may seem like great accomplishments and happy
times in my life, but there is one event that tops both of those and receives
the most coveted gold medal: my class ranking of forty-two.
Most of you are thinking, what the heck, 42? What does that mean?
Well, what it means is the most perfect slacking job ever. I made the top ten
percent by less than a tenth of a point(3.94).
I do claim that I worked hard in school and took most of my classes seriously,
but the one thing I always kept in mind was to stop and smell the roses.
You know, ENJOY high school.
On a more serious note, if I had to give some advice to the rising seniors
and underclassmen, I would advise you not to count on being lucky and just barely
squeezing in your grades.
I am quick to say that no matter what path you take in high school, take advantage
of your time and experience life not just from an academic standpoint.
Right now, most of us are blessed to have all of our necessities provided for
us by our parents.
So dont worry about where you will be in twenty years, look around and see what you already have, live it up and stop to take time to smell the roses!
