Wrestlers head for regionals

Amanda Phillips, Charger Staff

What do the words “guys in spandex” bring to mind? Most of us would think about the swim team, but the wrestling team would also fit that description.

Although the season is almost half way over, the team is still going strong. The coaches are really proud of how they performed.

In fact, their last few tournaments have gone really well. A high point of the season for the team was the in school match held on Jan. 22. It was a rare opportunity for the team to display their talents in front of the student body. After entering the gym to a rousing ovation from their fans, the team rose to the occasion soundly defeating Warren County.

The team has approximately forty members. Five are seniors. As a team they are meeting the challenges the coaches set before them.

Coach Cook said the goals for this year are “to do well in the matches and try to win regionals and state championship.”

The team is excited and anticipating a huge championship win in both regional and state.

The next match is going to be the regionals on Feb. 7 and 8. Those who win the regionals go on to state meet on Feb. 13-15.
