What makes a good relationship?

Kristen Mitchell, Co-Editor-in-Chief

All relationships are different in their own way. There are friendships, acquaintances and more serious ones.

As if serious relationships aren’t difficult enough by themselves some people choose to make them more difficult by getting involved in long distance relationships. Often people tell those who are in a long distance relationship that it will never work, and some never even get involved for fear of being hurt.

It doesn’t always turn out badly. The factors that make these relationships work are many and varied but commitment would have to top the list. If two people care deeply about each other distance won’t stand in the way. Sometimes the time apart can make the time you spend together even more meaningful. I think that it makes two people grow emotionally closer together because physical aspects of the relationship are not at the forefront. It lends the opportunity for the two people to talk and to actually get to know the real person inside instead of basing the relationship on physical attraction.

In today’s modern world with e-mail and cheap long distance rates, keeping in contact daily with a distant loved one is not only possible but highly practical as well.

Long distance relationships can work if you’re willing to put the work into the relationship.
