So it begins: soccer team gets ready for much anticipated new season

Before you know it, spring will be here and the new soccer team will be well under way. According to senior Sam Matson, “We are all in much anticipation for the new season and are anxious to see how we fair against the competition.” The new season is well anticipated and the team has high hopes. Senior Kent Starkweather says, “We were a top 8 team in state last year and we are better this year, hopefully, we will come and play at the right time.”

Members of the this years team include underclassmen: Ethan Ballinger, Jason Barnes, Wes Boles, Cory Boyd, Stevie Buckner, Christian Bushner, Matt Currie, Tim Durm, Mike Ford, Cole Gamby, Matt Gribble, Jake Hafner, Levi Holloway, David Kneiling, Jack Lynn, Shawn Mahonee, Bobby Norwood, Josh Pryor, Mike Sherfee, Daniel Uthus, Jacob Wallace, Cyle White, and Brian Wood.

The team also includes seniors: Roland Borys, Matt Curry, David Epley, Scott Faw, Tyler Huddleston, Sam Matson, Kyle Painter, Krishna Rao, Brandon Smith, Kent Starkweather, and Lou Zafarano.

According to Bobby Norwood, “We have really great senior leaders this year and hopefull they will lead us to a successful season.” Senior Tyler Huddleton says, ‘We had a great season last year, and we should fair really well if people step up and play well.”

Most of this years team also competed for the Cookeville United Soccer Team, which won the State Championship this past fall. There are high expectations for the CHS team. according to senior David Epley, “I think that our team will dominate the district and fair really well in state play.
