Pop stars have attacked every aspect of daily life from music to television,
and now, it has launched a full scale invasion of the film industry. Movies
like A Walk to Remember (Mandy Moore), Glitter (Mariah Carey), Light It Up (Usher),
Rockstar (Marky Mark), Romeo Must Die (Aaliyah), Model Behavior (Justin Timberlake),
On the Line (Lance Bass and Joey Fotane), and Spice World (Spice Girls) are
rehashing the same stories told in countless other teen films with better actors
and actresses.
The latest movie to join the ranks of teen movies featuring celebrities is
Brittney Spears latest venture, Crossroads. From what the previews have
revealed about the movie, it appears to be about a group of young, attractive
females out to see the world.
Anyone going to this movie can expect a soundtrack replete with Britteny Spears
songs, and if my suspicions are correct, it will be like watching an hour and
a half commercial for her album/ soundtrack.
It is obvious by this plethora of movies aimed toward teenaged audiences that
record producers may be starting to worry about the futures of their bright
young stars and starlets. The past few months have seen a definite decrease
in popularity of boy bands(remember BB Mac?) Also, with AJ McCleans
much publicized bout with alcoholism, these boy bands like InSync
and the Backstreet Boys may be gone completely in a couple of years.
With any luck it will go the way of Mariah Careys flop, Glitter, and will quietly leave theaters in a few weeks. Hopefully, Crossroads will prove to Brittney that the movie business is not for her and she will go back to her friends at MTV.
