I need my STUFF!

Chris Lynch, Staff Writer

Christmas is just around the corner and I’m in the process of figuring out just what all of this means to me.

Christman means nothing more recieving gifts to me. Of course there’s the religious aspect, the birth of Christ, Bethlehem and the wise men and all that. Then there’s the family thing – they come from all over the globe to my grandparent’s place down by the river. I get to see all my cousins from out of state, and we go party.

We all need to look at the benevolent side of Christmas. There’s the basic “goodwill toward men” stuff about Christmas when you’re supposed to be nice to people who you don’t even know and you’re supposed to give money to the folks in the Santa suits at Kroger’s …

Well, this year I’m in it for the stuff. I want my stuff.

I NEED my stuff.

I’m already figuring out where my stuff is gonna be coming from.

For instance, Dad is already committed to the awesome CD player I need for my new truck. Mom, on the other hand, plays it rather close to the vest and I don’t know what she’s got cookin’.

My grandparents are good for some cash and clothes and other relatives manage to slip me some greenbacks on the side. And, there’s usually a trip to somewhere, even if it’s only up to Gatlinburg.

Then, I have all of my other rich relatives who will slip me a couple of benjamins. Don’t get me wrong. Usually I’m not this mercenary, but I’m just taking my lead from good ol’ American commerce.

Look at it in the financial view of economics. Many businesses across this great nation rely on the Christmas season to make their economic year, and I’m simply willing to do my part by being on the receiving end of this massive movement of goods. Who better?

Mom says I need to be nicer and more mature this Christmas due to my age. I say I’m moving out next year and I need some gifts. Dad says I should enjoy this phase of my development because I only get to be young once. I think he means that eventually I will find myself on the other end of this movement of goods, standing there like he does, with his check-book in hand …
