You’re a mean one, Mr. Grinch--Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas is a holiday hit

Leigh Ivey, Editor-in-Chief

Since I was little, I’ve always loved watching Christmas movies. It didn’t even have to be at Christmas, for that matter. I can watch National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation during the summer and still get into the holiday spirit.

But my favorite movie to watch when December finally rolls around is Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

Dr. Seuss has written dozens of books, from Horton Hears a Who to The Cat in the Hat to Oh, the Places You Will Go! But The Grinch takes the cake.

What can beat a grouchy green animal (I don’t really know what species a grinch would fit into) who transforms from a cold-hearted monster to a happy, friendly member of Who-ville.

Although the book and live-action movie are both outstanding, neither can beat the cartoon that is shown every Christmas season on TV.

When reading the book you can’t get the full Grinchy effect, for you miss hearing “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” and the infamous “Adu-borese” (actually I have no idea what that song is called, but everyone knows the tune of the song...it’s the horrible horrible song the Whos sing when they join together around the tree on Christmas morning).

And of course, no one can forget little Cindy Lou Who, who is no more than two. How cute is she?

So this Christmas, take a break from ordinary Christmas movies and take time to enjoy Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas.
