Local organizations bring joy to the community this Christmas

Laura Denton, Charger Staff

The Christmas season presents many opportunities for volunteering.

Many people choose to volunteer as a way to give back to the community, and to help those less fortunate.
Cookeville has numerous volunteer needs.

The animal shelter, for instance, always welcomes volunteers to help feed and bathe animals, as well as to clean cages.

The unlucky cats and dogs of the Putnam County Animals Shelter would delight in some much needed TLC.
They also take donations of cat litter, latex disposable gloves, bleach, liquid laundry soap, puppy or kitten chow, canned cat/dog food, powdered laundry soap, paper towels, towels and blankets, cat/dog toys and rawhides.

Another great place to volunteer is the YMCA of Putnam County.  They have several volunteer opportunities in child care, as well as pool deck monitors and people qualified to give swimming lessons.

Other places with possible volunteer opportunities include the rescue mission, the foodbank, and local senior citizens homes as well as area nursing homes.

Volunteering is an excellent way to become involved in the community and to get in the Christmas spirit.
