“Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone”

Rated: PG Grade: 8 “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” made it big but was it really as big as everyone made it out to be?

Harry Potter’s story starts off with Albus Doumbledore (Headmaster of Hogwarts) placing baby Harry on the Dursley’s doorstep. Harry’s parents were murdered, and his aunt and uncle are the only relatives he has left.

Life with the Dursley’s is a very miserable one. They forced him to have the small closet below the stairs as a bedroom and his cousin Dudley got everything he wanted or needed.

One day mysterious letters were sent to Harry(Daniel Radcliff), but the Dursley’s wouldn’t let him have them. It wasn’t until Harry’s birthday that he finally gets his letter and finds out he is a wizard. While at Hogwart he has to solve a big mystery in which to save the world from the evil , dark wizard Voldemort.

The special effects in this movie were absolutely superb. One can definitely imagine one self in the movie, and for the short two an a half hours actually live within the walls of Hogwarts.

The story line stuck to the book most of the time. I only know of two different situations that were changed. one thing that disappointed me was they left out one of my favorite characters in the book which was Peeves (the mischievous poltergeist that is somewhat like a ghost). The other thing that it was missing was the couragous act of smuggling Norbert the dragon off of Hogwart’s grounds.
The characters of the book definately fit the characters o f the movie. Snape was just as cruel and suspicious, and Hermione was as nagging and non-rule-breaking as ever.

Everything was exactly as I imagined it in the book except the great hall. I imagined the great hall as being very elegant with chandilers and four very large tables. Instead it had floating candles to light the hall and it looked very much to me like they were in a old dungon.

Daniel Radcliff’s acting was great; he fit the part very well, and I am glad he is contuining to be Harry Potter in the sequel.

Despite the fact that it was two and a half hours long it seemed like it was only one hour. It seemed like once it started it was already finished.

I have to say the movie was great, but of course with all movies based on books the book was better. If you like fantasy or Harry Potter, this movie is for you. On a scale from one to ten, I give it an eight.
