If I asked you to make a list of who the most influential people in your life are, many of you would probably mention a teacher somewhere on that list.
Teachers have such a large impact on us, yet I feel that they are not appreciated enough. Think about your high school career and your future. Everything that you are working towards depends on what you know and how you use what you have learned. Teachers facilitate students in using their knowledge to succeed in life.
I feel that teachers need to be more respected by the student body. Teachers hold a large responsibility, and when students disrespect them it can be frustrating for a teacher to they feel that the are not reaching the students.
Teaching is fast becoming a dying profession, yet teachers are some of the most important people that one can encounter.
Dr. Michael Martin recently researched teacher pay and discovered that Putnam County schools have some of the highest performing students, but are low on the list for teacher salaries. As I ponder my school career, I realize I have had many teachers who have influenced my life. I would not be the person I am today without the hard work, dedication and encouragement of caring teachers.
These teachers are our heroes, and their words will be with us throughout our lives whether we realize it or not. I think it is such an honor to teach our youth One reason that teachers enjoy teaching so much is to know that they have made a difference and are teaching the future leaders of our country.
As I near the end of my high school career, I will remember my teachers who have guided me toward the road to success. Thank you to all of my teachers for your encouragement and dedication.
