Was the Veterans Day program enough for you? For Cookeville High school teacher Laura Carter, sponsor of the Tennessee Tommorrow Club, there had to be something more.
With only a small percentage of Cookeville High school participating in the Veterans Day Program, Carter sought involvment from all CHS students. All it took was an okay from Mr. Wayne Shanks, and so began the first year tradition of Proud to be an American Week.
The week-long fest was kicked off on Tuesday with Red, White, and Blue Day, where all CHS students were asked to show their patriotism for their country in their dress.
Wednesday was Camo Day, intended to show appreciation for our Armed Forces.
Thursday was Dress Your Best Day, Carter states, We dress our best to honor those who gave their best.
Friday was Yellow Ribbon Day. Ribbons were given out to students during first block. A large number of students participated on this day. The yellow was for rememberence of the veterans.
For a first-year activity, the week went very well. It was a large undertaking, and Carter would like to thank Tennessee Tommorow for all their great participation in making the ribbons for Friday and all their hard work, which paid off tremendously.
Carter hopes that next year Proud to be American Week. will be an even bigger success. Carter gives a special thanks to Marie Thompson, a sponsor of the Tennessee Tommorow Club, and also the teachers for all their help.
She states,It was a great way to remind our students about those who have gone before us and have sacrificed to make America great.
