Every year a sophmore is selected to compete for the HOBY Leadership Award. Hillary Taylor is the recipiant of the award for this year. She will now compete at a state level doing community service with hopes of going to G.W. University in Washington D.C., in July.

This scholarship was founded by famous actor Hugh O’Brian in 1958. This program is run by over 5,000 volunteers and donations and over 14,000 students participate annually. The purpose of HOBY is “to seek out, recognize and develop leadership potential commencing with high school sophomores.”

To be eligible for this award, students must fill out an application, write an essay, and be interviewed.

Many sophomores competed for the award by writing the essay and filling out the application, and the finalists were designated times to be interviewed.

Hillary has many of the admirable qualities the judges were looking for. Besides being involved with cheerleading, Interact, and Speech Team, Hillary feels her best leadership quality is getting along well with others.

Hillary says, “ I hope to gain a lot from the time and effort I have put into this award. Hopefully I can use my knowledge gained to benefit myself and my community.”

Good luck to Hillary with the competion and congratulations to her for all of her hard work.
