"Fast-paced" season for basketball: quick moves show benefits

Spencer Huddleston, Charger Staff

Watching the Cookeville High basketball teams this year, one word comes to mind: balance.

With the absence of young men and women that duck under doorframes and completely dominate the inside game, this year’s teams have relied on quickness, speed, and outstanding teamwork to accomplish their goals.

Spectators welcome a change from slow developing post plays and foul shots to fast-paced fastbreaks and perimeter shooting that would put Annie Oakley to shame.

“This year’s team is very disciplined,” says junior forward Brian Dale. “Coach Bray has helped us not only with our physical game but also our mental game.”

The Cavs seniors that have stepped up include Wade Wheaton, Todd Martin, Jason Cobb, Nathan Burks, and Ryan Allison.

They recently opened the home season with a blowout of the Livingston Wildcats, with many players getting action.

The Lady Cavs are led by seniors Lindsey Wolf, Stacey Moss, and Abby Colglaizer, with a supporting cast of skillful juniors and sophomores.
