Soccer down but not out for the season
Wes Garner, Charger Staff

The t-shirt over one’s head, arms stretched out in the air,
and the freedom of flying all represent the sport of soccer. Soccer
is more than well underway with a brand spanking’ new team.
And when I say new, I mean yet another CHS sports team dominated
by underclassmen.
The team has lost twelve seniors from the previous year’s
roster.
Yet, a team composed of mainly underclassmen is not a bad thing.
The team seniors, Corey Boyd, David Knieling, and Matt Currie seem
to be keeping a strong arm and a comfortable wing over the underclassmen.
These captains have kept the underclassmen in line and are helping
to build them into a great team in the years to come.
The
junior captain is Bobby Norwood.Several factors have worked against
them. With the weather again being a major problem, the team had
only a few days preparation instead of a usual two weeks.
Their current record is 3-5-1. Many of the players have had minor
injuries (which always slows things down). The most serious so far
has been senior David Knieling who was out with a hip-flexer injury.
Despite all the downfall’s, Coach Neil Ellis has faith in
his team considering that they have been playing top 10 teams so
far. Coach Ellis said. ”We have not played a team that we
should not have been able to beat, though. Their potential is evident
they are steadily making progress, according to the coach.
Even after a rough beginning, the team has many things in their
favor as well. Knieling’s temporary replacement, freshman
Blake Walker, has taken his position with gusto. Not only Walker
,who has setting his position on the team, but many of the younger
players, too have really stepped up.
