Don’t top those trees
Dear Charger Staff:
I am very concerned about Tennessee’s trees. Many people are
cutting off the tops of their trees.
They do not realize how much this hurts the poor trees.
Cutting the tops off trees, sometimes called tree topping, cuts
their life span in half, makes them weaker, and more vulnerable
to tornados, fires, and pesticides.
Many people believe that if you cut the tops off it gives the roots
time to catch up.
This statement is false and because people believe this they do
top their trees and this literally kills them in the future.
I would like to write an article about this “tree topping”
in the Charger. I am hoping that students will read it and change
their minds about topping trees.
I am hoping that you will consider my requests.
Thank you,
