Screamcore reigns with Something to Remember

Erin McMillan, Charger Staff

Ever get in one of those moods where all you want to do is hear loud, angry music to calm your mood? Next time the feeling strikes crank up Something to Remember.

Something to Remember is a New Jersey scream core band that started as a pop punk trio and progressed to relentless metal. In 2000, the band formed as Waiting For Mingus with current members John Terry on guitar and Wyatt Harte on drums, and former members Jay Fortino and Ricky Marra. The band was now complete except for one minor problem--they had no singer. This is when Kevin Dunphy came in as their vocalist.

The band then played extensively all over New Jersey and Pennsylvania. When Ricky became unreliable the band booted him out and recruited a new bassist, Joe Smith. His first show marked the end of Waiting for Mingus and the beginning of Something to Remember. Under this name they left behind their roots as a power driven pop punk band and converted their sound to brutal scream core. Jay left shortly after the change and was replaced by guitarist
Dave Stumpe completing their current lineup.

Since the band’s conception they have released a 5 song EP titled It Could Have Been Nice. Currently they are looking for a label to sign and more opportunities to perform. They have gained a huge following across north New Jersey, and have had the opportunity the share the stage with other hardcore bands as Converge, Folly, The Banner, Shai Hulud, Underoath, and Daughters, among others.
