Track team triumphs in district meet

The week of April 15 was a big week for the Cookeville High School track teams. Both the men’s and women’s teams competed in the 2002 District 7AAA meet.

All the teams from district 7AAA were there to compete including, Riverdale, Oakland, Blackman, Warren County, and Lebanon.

The girls team came away with a tie for the third place spot in the district with Blackman. Ashley Brady won first in the district in the high jump and placed second in the 400 meter event. Joanna Gerold came away with two first place finishes in both the 100 meter and 300 meter hurdles.

Girl’s team coach Terry Scott said of their performance, “We showed a lot of heart and were very competitive. We have a great group of young athletes who put forth a superb effort.”

The men’s team also had a good showing finishing third overall in the district. Shane Langford won first in the high jump.

Justin Birdwell came in first in the mile and two mile distances. The 4x800 meter relay team consisting of Ben Pauli, Jesse Dalton, Neal Jackson, and Eric Lisic, also pulled in a first place finish.

James Lane came in second in the 100 meters in a school record time of 11.1 seconds. Ben Pauli also ran to a second place finish in the 800 meter distance.

Congratulations to all the athletes who competed in this year’s district meet.
