Tennis tackles tough teams
Meg Ivey, Charger Staff
The excitement of spring is finally in the air, and sports at CHS are going
strong. Mens soccer, softball, baseball, and both track teams have gotten
off to a great start. And who could forget the tennis teams?
After conditioning since January, the teams finally kicked off their seasons
in a match against Mt. Juliet on March 26.
The girls crushed Mt. Juliet in a 9-0 victory, while the boys (struggling without
number one Ryan Allison, and number two Justin Proctor) were heartwrenchingly
defeated 1-7. Despite the 34 degree temperatures and foreboding clouds, both
teams traveled to Lebanon on March 27 to pound the Blue Devils, the boys winning
9-0 and the girls 6-3.
Sunny weather returned for the Thursday match against Warren County in which
both teams dominated, boys winning 8-1 and the girls 7-2. Both teams pounded
Sparta on April 2, the boys winning an impressive 9-0, while the girls only
dropped one set of ten.
In possibly one of the toughest matches of the season, the girls defeated rival
Oakland Patriots 4-3 while the boys fought hard but couldnt pull out the
victory, losing 4-5. In a non-dictrict game against Cumberland County, the girls
maintained their flawless record with a 9-0 victory. The boys struggled to come
back after all three doubles teams losing, but only won three singles matches.
They ended up losing 3-6.
Both teams are gearing up for more district games; the girls hoping to remain
undefeated and the boys looking towards more district wins.
