Interact conference wrap-up
Meg Ivey , Charger Staff
Instead of spending their first weekend of Spring Break in Panama City, 53
Interactors loaded up on one school bus (there were supposed to be two but for
some reason there was only one, so all students had to ride with their luggage
on their laps) and headed off for the tourist- trap Pigeon Forge for a weekend
of fun and a little inter-club competition. The Cookeville club was the Conference
Committee, the club in charge of the District 6780 Conference, so upon arrival
the club members set out to get all 25 other clubs registered.
The large group talent show took place later Friday night, in which Tyler Huddleston
and Kent Starkweather led other club members in a stirring, last minute rendition
of Kiss the Girl from the timeless classic The Little Mermaid.
The talent show was followed by a barbecue and a trip to Ripleys Aquarium.
Rachel Hunter and Dane Cooper participated in the small group talent show, winning
third place for their dance piece. In the single talent division, Ethan Ballinger
won first place for his stellar mandolin playing.
Saturday afternoon was left free for everyone to stroll around Pigeon Forge,
and the day ended with a banquet and a dance.
Sunday morning was reserved for awards, in which the Cookeville Club took more
than its fair share. Awards include:
2nd Place Club Fellowship Project- Spring Lock-In
2nd Place Scrapbook
3rd Place Nametag Competition
3rd Place Fundraising- Fall and Spring Free Car Wash
Fred Brown Award of Merit- Interactor of the Year: Jonathan Uhles
District Office Service Award: Jonathan Uhles
Elected as District Officers- Amanda Nixon and Merry Davis
Congratulations to all the Interactors for a wonderful showing at Conference
and great service year-round!
