Flip flop fugitive foiled!

Nicole Pullen, Charger Staff

“And remember, kids, the weather is getting warmer, so watch out for those flip-flops.” What are they going to do?? Attack you?
I understand that we have a pretty lenient dress code, but I still have a problem with the school policy on flip-flops. What’s the big deal about wearing them?? They’re just shoes. They’re comfortable, practical, and simple.

I have been racking my brain to try to come up with possible arguments on why someone would be anti-flip-flop. You could argue that they were dangerous because it’s possible to trip in them. But flip-flops aren’t any more dangerous than regular closed-toe shoes. You can trip wearing any kind of shoe. It all depends on what you do while wearing them.

For example, two people, who will remain anonymous, were running down the hallway today. The person who was wearing flip-flops did not fall or trip. However, after yelling, “Wait up, gang!” the person who was wearing closed shoes did.

Why does it matter what kind of shoes we wear? How does it affect the adults at our school? Shoes and our clothing should be our own choice. If a greater risk of falling or tripping on the stairs exists when we wear flip-flops, then let us take that risk. We can handle it.
